PC Grad is Featured Artist in Orchestra Concert
Tue, 2013-10-15 10:04

Peninsula College graduate Anson Ka Lik Sin will be front and center when the Port Townsend Community Orchestra opens their 2013-2014 concert season in the Chimacum High School Auditorium on Saturday, October 26. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm.

Hailed as both a “piano AND violin virtuoso,” the 19-year-old international student from Hong Kong graduated from Peninsula College in June of this year with an AA degree and currently attends the University of Hong Kong. He will be making a special return trip to the States in order to perform on the peninsula.

The first half of the program will highlight Sin performing the first movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. The second half will feature Sin performing the second movement of Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor.

PC music professor Dr. David Jones is not at all surprised by the upcoming performance, calling him a “Phenomenal pianist!”

“Sin was an excellent student here in the Music Program at Peninsula College,” Dr. Jones says. “He played violin in the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra while he was a student here, and took all of my available courses, even Jazz Ensemble and the Improvisation Seminar, even though he is primarily a classical musician. He was an ‘A’ student throughout.”

Despite being only 19, Sin has won competitions in Hong Kong, England and Russia and received many academic awards.

Most would agree that the musical world looks very bright indeed for this young PC graduate.
